Captain's Club or Refuge Menu: how to choose your All Glaciers

Captains club 2022 1920w (1)

Captain's Club or Refuge Menu? All three options for the All Glaciers tour cover the same five glaciers and the Spegazzini Base. The classic option lets you choose your meal in the onboard cafeteria; the Refuge Menu adds a regional lunch at the Spegazzini Refuge; the Captain's Club adds a preferred cabin, personalized service, and all-day dining.

We designed these options based on what our passengers have been asking for for years. We've been sailing Lake Argentino since 1980, and we know that a 7-hour day on the water is experienced differently depending on what you eat and where you travel.

What doesn't change: the route

Whichever option you choose, the All Glaciers Navigation tour is the same: it departs from Puerto Punta Bandera, 47 km from El Calafate, crosses the Boca del Diablo (Devil's Mouth), sails among the icebergs to the Upsala Glacier, continues past the Seco and Heim Glaciers, reaches the Spegazzini Glacier, and disembarks at the Spegazzini Base, with its trails, walkways, viewpoints, and refuge. All five glaciers—Upsala, Seco, Heim, Peineta, and Spegazzini—are for everyone.

What changes is the food, the place you travel within the ship, and the level of service.

The classic: freedom to plan your day

The classic version is for those who want the full tour and prefer to arrange their own meals. There's a cafeteria on board, and a market operates at the Spegazzini Refuge. It's suitable for:

  • Eat little at midday or prefer something quick.
  • He wants to spend most of his time on the outer decks, taking pictures.
  • Travel with kids who go at their own pace.

If you want to see in detail what you can eat that day, we tell you in what to eat on the day of All Glaciers.

With Refugio Menu: lunch sorted in front of the glacier

The Refuge Menu is served at the Spegazzini Refuge, whose 280 m² main hall has a picture window overlooking the glacier. There are three options, all of which include a non-alcoholic beverage and an herbal infusion:

  • Classic: meat empanada, guanaco goulash and white and dark chocolate mousse.
  • Suitable for celiacs: salad, lamb casserole and mousse.
  • Vegetarian: vegetable empanada, lentil and vegetable casserole, and mousse.

It's the perfect option for those who want to sit down to a hot, regional meal without worrying about logistics, and it's especially useful if you have a gluten-free or vegetarian diet: you can choose in advance. We discuss it in the Refuge Menu and Patagonian Gastronomy section.

With Captain's Club: the day with a different rhythm

The Captain's Club is the ultimate experience. You travel in a premium cabin, enjoying greater privacy and personalized service throughout the journey. At the Refugio, the Captain's Club lounge spans 80 square meters and features its own terrace with views of the Spegazzini and Heim mountains. A menu is available all day.

  1. Welcome: coffee, tea, hot chocolate and pâtisserie.
  2. Spegazzini Moment: Patagonian snacks, wines and beer.
  3. Refuge Moment: Choose from guanaco goulash, chicken curry, Patagonian lamb casserole, lentil stew or vegetable wok.
  4. Sweet ending and toast: champagne, whiskey or spirits.

Ideal for celebrations, honeymoons, travelers who value their own space, or those who want everything taken care of. More details on the Captain's Club website.

Three questions to help you decide

  • How important is food to you on this trip? If it's part of the plan, choose the Shelter Menu or Captain's Club. If not, the classic menu.
  • Are you traveling to celebrate something? The Captain's Club adds a toast and a more intimate space.
  • Do you have any dietary restrictions? The Refuge Menu has gluten-free and vegetarian options that can be chosen in advance.
